A Brave New World Notes

-Figurative Language present throughout first few pages
-Restatement "Wintriness responded to wintriness"
-Juxtaposition "The light was frozen, dead, a ghost... Borrow a certain rich and living substance"
-Irony paragraph is about death but at the end talks of "fertilizing room"
-Dichotomy living/dead
-Symbolism 'shield' as defense against the forces of anarchy confusing dystopian underviews
-The Director is not given a name because he is inhumane and director is merely his title with no personality
-Divided Stanford students into prisoners and guards; had to hault the experiment because it got too extreme; good people can do bad things and bad systems produce bad people
-Fragmentation: breaking apart whole segments into separate ones that are somehow still related
-Schema: mental structures we create that organize new information
-"Those who meant well behaved in the same way as those who meant badly"
